Black Swan is the venue name for music and performance events presented in both the Bar and the Basement Venue. Performance events encompass world music, rock, jazz, and the occasional classical events. The Venue encourages live music and is well known as a launch pad for innovation and talented musicians.

The Black Swan Bar & Venue has a full On and Off Sales licence and can run Music & Dance
events until 2am all week, Mon-Sat, Sunday until 12.30am.

The Black Swan is the music and dance venue of Newcastle Arts Centre
fully licensed, for music, theatre, dance and holds a late bar license.

It occupies the basement of the Arts Centre and is entered from a private courtyard.
As an arts venue it’s very flexible and used to catering for a wide variety of events,
when you hire the Black Swan you have the use of three spaces, the courtyard
surrounded by historic buildings, the bar that’s a venue in itself with space for
a band or disco and buffet tables, this leads on to the main venue which has a capacity of 200
with a good dance floor, cabaret table plan, a stage, theatre lighting, a sound system and video projection.
You can plan a different mood or theme for each space and our experienced staff
who are here to help you organise your event.

The venue hosts Newcastle’s most popular Salsa dance night every Friday
and new this Autumn is a Swing and Jive night on Tuesdays from September 9th .

Each dance night includes lessons for beginners.

The basement Venue is a purpose built performance or exhibition space, fully licensed for theatre and public entertainment. It is a large room with clear space 12 x 12 metres, which is quiet and totally insulated from traffic noise.

The basement opens into the Cellar Bar which in turn has access to the Courtyard and the Studios.
Facilities include a control box with audio mixer , Bi-amp vocal PA , and 12/24 DMX lighting desk , preset lighting rig with 12 x 2k dimmers. and a video projector that can play DVD or live TV.
Capacity; as a theatre - 140; for other events - 200.
A small goods lift links the Ground Floor and the Basement.

Conference Studio

Located in the Arts Centre's well equipped studio block the Conference Suite is a self contained public or private facility for up to 50 people, with the availablity of an independent reception desk. Facilities include slide projectors, video play back, Digital projector, audio recording and P.A.
