Life Drawing

With Narbi Price

Wednesdays 20th & 27th January, 3rd & 10th February 2016

6pm-9pm (4 x 3 hours) Course Fee; £120

Using a range of provided media and materials, this course provides an in-depth introduction to a selection of Life Drawing practices with artist Narbi Price. Working from an unclothed model, each class will explore a different aspect of the Life Drawing process and develop each student’s skills in drawing and looking.

Chinese Brush Painting – Writing Course

Dr Chun-Chao Chiu will be providing a compact introduction into Chinese writing.
This course will be a great way of seeing in the Chinese New Year by learning a new skill.

The Portrait

With Dr Aidan Doyle

Saturdays 13th & 20th February 2016

10am – 4pm (2 x 6 hours)

Course Fee; £75

Students will learn how to produce an accurate and convincing representation of the subject using charcoal, carbon pencils and pastels on paper. Students will learn and apply the fundamental principles of representational drawing and various charcoal, carbon pencil and pastel application techniques.

Students will identify various uses of colour and tonal values to create impressions of light falling on the subject. They will study value and tones, and composition. It will broaden their understanding of portraiture in art. They will observe proportions of the head and face.

The end result of the programme is the student will be made familiar with the fundamentals of portrait drawing. They will create increasingly carefully observed and realistic portraits. These are transferable skills which students will be able to apply to their personal work.

Drawing Basics

Fridays – 26th Feb, 4th, 11th & 18th March 2016

10am – 1pm (4 x 3 hour)

Course fee; £75

This course is designed to enable you to develop your technical and observational skills. We will cover the basics of line, tone, texture and colour as well as being shown different ways to use materials. You will be encouraged to experiment a little in order to find your own approach so that you can draw with increasing confidence and enjoyment. Suitable for absolute beginners, or those who have not drawn for a long time.

Introduction to Watercolour

An introduction to the beauty and clarity of watercolour. Learn by looking and working directly from nature with leaves and flowers. There are opportunities to experiment with materials and subject matter in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Suitable for all abilities.

Pastel Course

Aidan will demonstrate his free and bold style of drawing with pastel, charcoal and graphite. He will focus on pastel essentials, colour and light. Individual critiques tailored to each students needs and skill levels provide learning how to capture images successfully with pastels. Although the methods vary, our work will develop skills and techniques associated with creating representational art, and the creation of pleasing art works.
