ONE DAY WORKSHOP

FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS : 4TH MAY

 Drawing can be used for many purposes. The first part of this day-long workshop will enable you to experience drawing as a purely contemplative activity focusing on mark-making and the physicality of drawing. In the afternoon, working from images and text, you will use drawing as a vehicle for your imagination and see the strange workings of your mind appear before you on paper. Suitable for all levels of drawing experience.

 

LIFE IN COLOUR : 11th MAY

Aimed at people who have had some drawing experience, this workshop explores the use of colour in observational drawing. Using coloured inks and pastels you will be introduced to several approaches to still life drawing. You will be given guidance as well as being encouraged to experiment and develop your own distinct style.

Comic book artist and illustrator Andrew Waugh will lead this three week course. Whether you're into Marvel, Manga, zines or graphic novels, (or have never picked up a graphic novel before!) this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to create your own comic books.

CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING

A course for anyone who has always wanted to be able to draw: you'll discover that you can! We'll look at ways that you can tap into the drawing side of your brain and then develop a few techniques to get you drawing from observation. Suitable for absolute beginners or those who have not drawn for a long time.

This course is designed for those who no longer have a fear of drawing and are now ready to develop their technical and observational skills. As well as being shown different ways to use materials, you will be encouraged to experiment a little in order to find your own approach so that you can draw with increasing confidence and enjoyment.

CUT & SEW

SKIRT BLOCK

Taking you one cut and stitch further to being a dress maker. Tutors Hannah Shaw & Sarah Grant will teach you the basics of pattern cutting, from creating a skirt block from your own measurements to cutting and sewing a toile of your design.

17th & 24th AUGUST

10-3pm

2 x 5 hour sessions

 BODICE BLOCK

This is the next stage for those who have completed the skirt block workshops or who have some experience in pattern cutting. You will create a bodice block from your own measurements and then construct you pattern in this 2 day workshop.

 JUST SEW - SHIFT DRESS

Using a pattern provided you will learn how to read the standard pattern markings and construct a basic shift dress in your chosen fabric, giving you the confidence to make up shop bought patterns at home.

Calico will be provided, along with a small range of cottons to choose from, but if you are confident to sew straight onto your own chosen fabric we would recommend you buy cottons only and you should not require more than 2 metres.

The talented illustrators, print makers, sewers, painters and craft makers of 'Set of Drawers' will run this exciting and creative 4 day workshop for you budding artists, creating their own mini-exhibition for parents and friends on the last day.
