The Kings Lodgings - Anderson Place - 'The Newe House'

This is an old print drawn by 'Knyff' illustrating the house in Newcastle where Charles1 was prisoner while the Scots held Newcastle to ransom in 1646 during the Civil War. Its titled 'the seat of Sir Wm.Blackett Bart.' The House and grounds stand like a country estate within the City Walls - the road at the front is Pilgrim Street, and on the right is Blackett Street leading to St. Andrews Church. Nuns Field is at the top of the picture and St. John Church is top left. with St. Nicholas Cathedral far left. Newcastle looked like this through the 17th and 18th Centuries and this rural vista was swept away by the speculative developments of Richard Grainger.

A framed reproduction of this fine print is usually in stock, price £ 66.
