The Swing Bridge and the High Level

This photograph shows Newcastle before the construction of the King Edward Bridge in 1905, a fully loaded steam ship is guided down river by a tug while a local train waits its turn to enter the Central Station 100 feet above. The picture was published as a Postcard by R.Johnson and Son of Gateshead who were probably the Photographers. A framed print is now available from our shop.
