Frequently
Asked Questions
How do I prepare the
surface to be painted?
Degrease with alcohol (methylated spirits).
During application, the frosted colours are glossy. Is
it normal?
Yes, these paints become frosted once dry. Also, make
sure you thoroughly stir the paints in the bottle and
shake the felt tip markers well before application.
How can I correct an error?
Before baking, the Vitrea 160 colours can be removed with
water or alcohol: use a damp cotton swab to correct a
detail or soak your object in water for a few minutes to
erase everything.
Can I apply successive coats?
Yes, you have two ways of proceeding. You can apply the
second coat without waiting for the first coat to have
dried. You can also apply the first coat, bake it and
then apply the second.
On which surface can I apply Vitrea 160?
This product is suited particularly well for painting on
glass or crystal. However, interesting effects can be
obtained on other types of surfaces which can withstand a
temperature of 160°C (325°F).
How can I use the crackling medium?
Apply step 1, allow to dry, then apply step 2 to obtain
the crackle finish. Allow to dry, then paint over the
crackles with colours or Vitrea 160 medium.
How do I obtain different sizes of crackles with the
crackling medium?
The size of the crackles depends on how thickly the
medium is applied. You can also obtain bigger crackles by
using a hair dryer to accelerate the reaction.
When using for the first time, how can I make the
colour run down to the end of the felt tip
marker?
Shake vigorously, then count 30 to 60 seconds, pressing
evenly on the tip.
How can I lighten a colour?
Mix colours with gloss or frosting medium.
How can I fluidify a colour?
You can fluidify Vitrea 160 colours with the Vitrea 160
thinner, until you obtain the desired consistency. Do not
use water which could change the technical
characteristics of the product.
Can the mediums be used on their own?
Yes. The gloss medium, which is almost invisible after
application, is ideal for making inclusions. The frosting
medium produces effects which are very similar to frosted
glass.
Why did the paints form bubbles after baking?
You probably did not allow the paint to dry long enough
before baking.
The paints did not resist dishwashing very well.
Why?
There are several possible reasons : the surface was
poorly degreased, the paints were diluted with water or
perhaps the instructions regarding the baking temperature
or duration were not respected.
