Steve Lyon-Bowes: Lockdown Portraits
Newcastle Arts Centre Showcase
29th April – 27th May 2023

Steve Lyon-Bowes is a well respected portrait painter who is a tutor on the very popular short courses at Newcastle Arts Centre.

We are very pleased to present these highly motivated and carefully crafted paintings.

Steve says –
These artworks were conceived as a response to the lockdowns during the Covid crisis. I found that, during this time, different people had different responses during the experience, and coming out of the lockdowns.

For some, it was a stressful time, being kept away from loved ones, sometimes during critical situations. For others, it offered a respite from the busy world, a chance to reconnect to who they really are, and to what’s important in their lives.

The paintings show the journey from wanting to be outside, to the actuality of emerging from the lockdown, and the different feelings that this brought. The statements are real testimonies from real people, based on their thoughts and experiences during and after the lockdowns.
